Barry Schwartz Dorwin Cartwright Professor of Social Theory and Social Action After receiving his PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971, Barry Schwartz went to Swarthmore College, where he has been ever since. He is currently the Dorwin Cartwright Professor of Social Theory and Social Action and Associate Provost at the College. His research focus in recent years has been on the relation between psychology and economics in general, and on the negative effects of incentives on human motivation and performance, in particular. This research has resulted in numerous papers in professional journals and two books, "The Battle for Human Nature" (1986) and "The Costs of Living: How Market Freedom Erodes the Best Things in Life" (1994). |
