Dennis F. Thompson Alfred North Whitehead Professor of Political Philosophy Professor Thompson teaches in the Government Department and the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and has been Director of the Ethics Program since its beginning in 1986. His most recent book, Democracy and Disagreement, jointly authored with Amy Gutmann, was published by Harvard University Press in 1996. His book, Political Ethics and Public Office, was named "the best political science publication in the field of U.S. national policy" by the American Political Science Association in 1987. He is also the author of Ethics in Congress: From Individual to Institutional Corruption; Democratic Citizen: Social Science and Democratic Theory in the 20th Century; John Stuart Mill and Representative Government; and is co-editor of Ethics and Politics. He has served as a consultant to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and the Department of Health and Human Services. He was graduated summa cum laude from the College of William and Mary, took a first class honors degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Balliol College, Oxford University, and received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard. |
