Most of the year, Penn’s mascot, The Quaker, and Drexel’s dragon mascot, Mario The Magnificent, are not just good neighbors, they’re good friends. Together, they share a love of athletics, an appreciation for urban campus life, and a penchant for giant shoes.
But as the basketball game being touted as the “Battle of 33rd Street” nears, the big guys are taking sides and flexing their furry muscles. The game, scheduled for 4 p.m. on Nov. 17 at The Palestra, is a University City showdown, pitting the blue-and-gold against the red-and-blue.
Until then, The Quaker and Mario are playing pranks, pounding their respective, and amply padded chests, and predicting victory!
