Biosketch:
LDI Adjunct Senior Fellow, Dr. Mark Kelley is Chief Medical Officer of
Henry Ford Health System and Chief Executive Officer of the Henry Ford
Medical Group (HFMG). He leads the clinical, educational, and research
activities for its 900 physicians. HFMG is one of the largest group practices
in the United States. In addition, annually, HFMG trains over 700 students
and residents and conducts over $50 million of biomedical research.
Previously, Dr. Kelley
was Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of
Medicine where he held a variety of positions. He was director of the
pulmonary fellowship and internal medicine programs. He served as Vice
Chair of Medicine, Chief of Medicine at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center,
and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs. In the latter role, he was responsible
for physician and hospital network development and for the coordination
of clinical practice integration across UPHS.
Dr. Kelley completed
both his bachelor's and his M.D. degrees at Harvard University and then
served as chief medical resident and fellow at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania. He is a nationally recognized expert in the subspecialty
of pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine and continues to maintain
an active clinical practice. He is listed in "'Best Doctors of America"
and "Who's Who in America". His research interests include the
cost-effective use of technology, health care economics, and medical education.
Dr. Kelley is a Fellow
of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Chest
Physicians. He has served as Chairman of the American Board of Internal
Medicine (ABIM), the professional organization which awards board certification
to all internists and medical subspecialties. He is currently the Chairman
of the ABIM Foundation Board. He has chaired COMPACCS, the national manpower
study on pulmonary and critical care and currently chairs FOCCUS, a committee
commissioned by the professional societies in critical care to redesign
critical care practice. Dr. Kelley is past President of the Pennsylvania
Thoracic Society and contributes editorial expertise and/or guest reviews
to six professional journals.
