SUMR Extracurricular Activities

In addition to doing rigorous research on health services topics, the SUMR Scholars also participate in numerous activities and extracurricular functions. Photos below illustrate teh wide range of experiences we enjoy throughout the summer. Events included, extracurricular activities while attending the National Research Science Award and AcademyHealth conferences in Chicago, going to a Phillies Game, a party at the shore, and a 'field trip' to Washington DC.

NRSA/AcademyHealth.org in Chicago, June 26-30, 2009
17 SUMR Scholars and three staff attended the NRSA and AcademyHealth.org conferences, held in Chicago. In addition to attending the sessions over the 4 days of the conference, the SUMR group enjoyed various activities in Chicago

The lively Chicago event "Tasteof Chicago" was opening the day the group arrived in Chicago. Following the savory stroll through Taste of Chicago, the group gathered at the Chicago Aquarium.

Other activities included eating famous Chicago Deep Dish Pizza and an architectural boat tour.

Party at the Shore
An annual event for SUMR Scholars is a trip to Margate NJ, where Skip Rosoff (Wharton Faculty) graciously hosts the group for a fun day of water, sun and boating. The SUMR Scholars were invited to a faculty member's (Skip Rosoff) beach house in Margate NJ. After a barbecue lunch at Skip's house, the gange set sail in Skip's luxury yacht - touring the bay, and hitting the waves on the beach. A fun time was had by all.
