Fall 2015

It was sunny, brisk, and beautiful. It was the kind of fall weather most people dream of. It was a day for studying, classes, workshops, seminars, shows, shopping, and games.

Friday, Oct. 23, marked Penn’s fifth iteration of the photo project “A Day in the Life of Penn.” Students, alumni, faculty, and staff documented their days through photographs and videos posted on Instagram. In all, there were 450 posts with the hashtag, #PennDayinLife.

Penn Vet's New Bolton Center chronicled the day for their animals, and even showcased a new life—a calf was born that morning at the Marshak Dairy.

Mechanical engineering students worked to turn computer models into physical objects, musician Josh Ritter gave a free performance at WXPN, and Onda Latina members rehearsed their Latin dance routine. Posts hailed from across the seas—students studying in Japan, China, Scotland, Brazil, New Zealand, Argentina, and even South Africa posted about their days abroad.

Parents caught up with their students on campus for the start of Family Weekend, and cheered together from the football stands as they watched the Quakers take home a 34-20 win against Yale.

These captured moments tell of just one day in the life of Penn, from morning well into the night. Thanks to these images, it will be a day that many will never forget.
