Transfer Letter | Transfer Checklist | Transfer Events
Note: Because much of the information that transfers need to know overlaps with the information for freshman, there are only a few transfer-specific pages. Please use the links directly above this text to navigate through the transfer pages. For the rest of the infomation you need, please use the menu bar at the top of the page.
Dear Transfer Students,
Welcome to Penn, our home... and now yours, too! As transfer students ourselves (Jamie from Drexel, Anna from NYU, Sarah from Bryn Mawr, Amanda from USC, and Jennifer from Vanderbilt), we know how exciting and overwhelming this time of transition can seem. Starting over in a brand new place is never easy, but we know your next few years at Penn will be some of the best of your life.
One great way to start off your new academic career is by attending Transfer Orientation. As this year's Transfer Coordinators, we'll be helping the New Student Orientation staff and other students here at Penn to create a week of events. These programs, which are social, cultural, and academic in nature, will help you get to know Penn, Philadelphia, and one another. This website, which will be updated throughout the summer with new information, will give a detailed picture of all the great programs we have in store for you. So, be sure to spend some time checking out these pages before you arrive.
Another online resource which we recommend you use is the Penn Transfers Facebook group at www.penntransfers.info. This group allows you to interact with Transfer PHINS (Peers Helping Incoming New Students), additional New Student Orientation staff, as well as other transfer students. You will be able to get questions answered and get an idea of what your first days at Penn might be like! It also contains contact information for each of the four undergraduate schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Nursing and Wharton. Similar to this website, the Facebook group will also be updated over the summer, so remember to visit both sites often.
At the moment, one of your big concerns is probably how to transfer your academic credits. No need for concern; there will be a session during Orientation that will help you with this process, but you should definitely get a jump start now. At Penn, transferring credits is a little different from School to School and department to department, but essentially you'll need to present the syllabus, as well as papers, tests and any other relevant course information for each course you want to transfer. Be sure to collect as many of those items as possible!
Orientation starts September 2, so get excited! When you arrive, come to the Welcome Center in Houston Hall, and the fabulous PHINS will get you on track for an amazing week and a great couple of years.
Meanwhile, don't hesitate to email us, whether you want to ask questions, or just say hello!
