Monday, September 6: 9PM - 11:30PM
Location: Penn Museum, 3260 South Street
Penn’s world famous archaeology and anthropology museum, with its magnificent Chinese Rotunda, Egyptian mummies, and rare artifacts in the Etruscan, Greek, and Roman collections, invites you to this unique Penn tradition.
In the spirit of the night, all are invited to dress in the garb of the ancient world, and togas abound – some beautiful, some outrageous – and all radically creative. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes by a panel of expert judges. Our DJ keeps things hot for those who like to dance, and the scavenger hunt lures you into gallery after gallery.
Wander through The Egyptian Mummy: Secrets and Science, which features an in-depth look at the Ancient Egyptian belief in the afterlife and funerary practices, along with what modern day scientists have learned through x-ray, autopsy, and other current techniques.
Fulfilling a Prophecy: The Past and Present of the Lenape in Pennsylvania, organized by Penn Museum together with the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, features never before displayed objects from the private collections of Lenape people in Pennsylvania. Ancient masks, dolls, jewelry, and other traditional arts are featured, as well as a number of once-secret family heirlooms, rich with hidden Lenape symbolism, dating from the early 19th century.
