This day, in 1789, the U.S. Department of the Treasury was established.

9/3 A cypher [zero] and humility make the other figures and virtues often-fold value. ~ BF
In 1714, BF was enrolled in Boston grammar school on this day at the age of 8. Also, the Treaty of Paris was signed on this day in 1783, ending the Revolutionary War.

In 1833, Barney Flaherty answered an ad in the New York Sun and became the first paperboy. But was he the first? Ben Franklin quotes in his autobiography, that when he apprenticed to his brother, "I was employed to carry the papers thro' the streets to the customers."
