Biography
Chinua Achebe was born in Nigeria in 1930. Born to
Christian converts, he was raised in one of the largest villages
in Eastern Nigeria, Ogidi. He graduated from the University
College, Ibadan where he began
to question the anglocentric way of life in literature
and art.
Mr. Achebe has written several short stories, poems, novels,
and essays about Nigeria. His poetry volume, Christmas
in Biafra, was the joint winner of the Commonwealth Poetry
Prize.
In addition to award winning books and poetry, Chinua Achebe
has received over 20 honorary doctorates and has taught at
three Universities in the United States (Univ. of Mass. Amherst,
Univ. of Conn. Storrs, and Bard College).
