Betty S. Adler is Senior
Counsel for the Corporate and Patient Services area of the University of
Pennsylvania Health System. Her practice focuses on hospital operational
matters, including contracts and corporate governance and support activities,
compliance with JCAHO, hospital licensing and regulatory requirements as
well as fraud and abuse issues and biomedical ethics. She has primary responsibility
for the contract administration
system for the Health System.
Ms. Adler has served on
many University of Pennsylvania and University of Pennsylvania Health System
committees including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Senior
Leadership Team, University Year 2000 Working Group and Legal/Risk Management
Committee, Health System Year 2000 Steering Committee, Ethics Committee,
Steering Committee on Complementary Medicine, Medical Records Committee and
the University of Pennsylvania's Institutional Review Board. She also advises
Health System trustee and medical staff governance boards. Prior to joining
the Health System, Ms. Adler was in private practice with the New Jersey
law firm of Archer & Greiner, P.C., practicing in general commercial
litigation with emphasis on health and hospital law, education law, insurance
agency law, and libel.
Ms. Adler received her
undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania (B.A., magna
cum laude, 1980) and her law degree from Temple University School of
Law (J.D., cum laude, 1983). Ms. Adler has published and spoken on
various health law related matters including conflicts of interest, complementary
and alternative medicine, ethical and legal dilemmas in medical research,
advance directives, genetic testing, HIV testing issues, and the confidentiality
of medical records. She is currently a member of the National Health Lawyers
Association and the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and New Jersey Bar Associations.
Ms. Adler is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
