Office of City and Community Relations
The Office of City
and Community Relations (OCCR) coordinates and directs activities to improve
relations between the University, the surrounding communities,
and the City of Philadelphia with the aim of advancing Penn's academic
and institutional mission. The OCCR serves as the University liaison
between the City's elected officials and agencies, neighborhood
and
community organizations, and schools in West Philadelphia and the
Philadelphia region. We seek the approval of City Council and City
governing agencies for campus and neighborhood development activities,
including land use and resource allocation. OCCR provides community
liaison and support for all five “West Philadelphia Initiatives” (WPI)
and provides forums for communication with community leaders, organizations
and associations regarding Penn's WPI, University developments, and
other outreach activities; we also support Penn's schools and departments
with their community and City outreach activities. We provide leadership to
the University’s
Community Economic Development Advisory Committee in advancing
institutional and community relations with special focus on construction
and procurement
opportunities.
