Intercultural Leadership Program

Introduction

The Intercultural Leadership Program (ILP) is a new program inspired by the vibrant diversity and international spirit of the Penn student body. The program will bring together 25 incoming US students and 25 incoming international students to form a cross-cultural leadership team on campus. Over the course of a year-long series of fun social activities and a collaborative project that will be shared with the broader Penn community, ILP participants will learn about each others' cultures and build the communication skills critical to operating in an increasingly globalized world. The program will be a great chance to form strong relationships with a diverse group of friends and to play an active role in strengthening intercultural awareness on campus. In the coming years, ILP will be open to a larger number of students, and the 2007-2008 cohort will be encouraged to become mentors or co-facilitators in future programs.

If you are open and committed to learning about other cultures, and motivated to share what you learn with your peers, we invite you to apply to the Penn Intercultural Leadership Program. Applications are being accepted immediately and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The deadline for applications is August 26. Selected applicants will be notified on August 31. Attendance at a September 8 kick-off and five subsequent events during the 2007-2008 school year is required, so please be sure that you can commit the time before submitting your application. All events will be scheduled while school is in session, to allow travel during the holidays.

Please direct any questions you may have about the program to Dr. Rodolfo Altamirano.

We look forward to learning about you!

Sincerely,

ILP Project Team

The Intercultural Leadership Program is a partnership between the Office of International Programs, the Graduate Student Center, the Greenfield Intercultural Center, the Graduate School of Education, College Houses and Academic Services, and the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business.
