In outlining the roles of anchor institutions, panelists will address three areas: their internal missions, their external needs or intentions (e.g. institutional expansion, neighborhood revitalization, cultivating clientele) and their obstacles and keys to successes.

The Honorable Henry Cisneros, Chairman, CityView companies, community-building firms dedicated to producing workforce homes in America's cities; former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and four-term Mayor of San Antonio, Texas.
Co-author of Our Communities, Our Homes: Pathways to Housing and Homeownership in America's Cities and States (August 2007), Mr. Cisneros will discuss the unique role of anchor institutions in leading city and neighborhood transformations that enhance urban economic health, affordability, and social diversity.

Panelists will focus on areas of agreement and of contention between city governance and anchor institutions noting that cities and anchors often have both converging and diverging interests as they both must operate within the constructs of the local economic, social and political establishment. This session will discuss specific examples of how cities and anchor institutions work together under the pressures of these converging and diverging priorities.
