Profile
Professor Hoek-Smit is the Director of the International Housing Finance Program and the Director of the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center at the Wharton School. Professor Hoek-Smit has consulted with clients including the World Bank, the UN Center for Human Settlement, and the Inter–American Development Bank. She is on the editorial board of Housing Finance International and is a member of the Working Group on Urban and Housing Research of the World Bank. Prior to teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, she taught at the University of Nairobi. Professor Hoek-Smit’s research interests include housing market analysis, land, urban development and housing finance policy and subsidy reforms. Her areas of expertise are emerging and transition economies.
