New methodologies, datasets: advancing knowledge
Through the work of internationally recognized scholars in the University's 12 schools, Penn has demonstrated a strong record of academic leadership in urban research. Penn IUR advances this scholarship by encouraging multidisciplinary collaboration, fostering an innovative urban research environment, and deploying new research methodologies and data. The Institute's research initiatives include the Faculty Associates Program, the Penn Faculty Forums, and the Urban Data Portal.
Faculty Forum Program
Penn IUR provides financial support for Faculty Forums that seek to foster and support interdisciplinary research and collaboration among Penn faculty and graduate students. Click here to learn more about the Penn IUR Faculty Forums.
The Faculty Associates Program
Through the Faculty Associate Program, the Institute fosters an environment that encourages cross-disciplinary connections and nurtures a collaborative spirit among faculty across the 12 schools. This program identifies faculty with a demonstrated interest in urban-research and provides research and communication services.
Services include participation in and access to the Faculty Associates Database which allows visitors to the Penn IUR website to identify faculty associates by name, school, and/or research interests.
As part of this program, the Institute hosts an annual Faculty Associate retreat aimed at maintaining communication among the faculty, engaging in critical evaluation of previous year's work and suggesting innovative methods to achieve the Faculty Associate Program objectives for the following year. The retreat also serves as a place for Faculty Associates to report on the year's activities in various symposia.
