In 2005, the Black Student Alliance was formed
by a group of engaged students that desired to devise a mechanism for
support and dialogue. The organization's goal is to have students,
professionals, and academics examine the nexus between race and practice,
recognizing the effects of design on black communities.
Mission To
ensure necessary inclusion and diversity within all sectors of the
PennDesign community, including governance, administration, faculty,
curriculum, admission, student affairs, recruitment, retention, and
outreach. To foster communication and networking among minority students,
alumni, faculty, and staff. To provide a mechanism of encouragement and
support for current PennDesign students. To raise awareness on issues
disproportionately affecting minorities within the design profession and
the greater community. To act as a key advisor to the university on
policies and procedures that will positively impact the experience at
PennDesign.
Vision In a
culture of erudition, the Black Student Alliance hopes to create a
community of socially conscious design professionals that in the future
will be inspired research, create, plan, and preserve valuable built
environments and communities.
