Description: Dissecting The Gross Clinic On Exhibit: August 31, 2009 - April 2, 2010 Philadelphian Thomas Eakins' 1875, The Gross Clinic, originally considered too vulgar and morbid for public display, is now one of the most admired American paintings. Together with his Agnew Clinic, it pays tribute to Philadelphia's reputation for excellence in medicine and medical education. In conjunction with Penn's Freshman Reading Project, Dissecting The Gross Clinic explores the history behind the painting as well as the relationship between Thomas Eakins and Dr. Samuel D. Gross. free and open to the public (please show photo ID at entrance) Near the Kamin Gallery, 1st floor, Van-Pelt Dietrich Library Center University of Pennsylvania, 3420 Walnut Street, Philadelphia Gallery hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday, by prior arrangement, noon-4pm
