The Penn chess team had a spectacular finish in the Pan-Am Games. "Based on our performance, we can claim to have the top undergraduate chess team in North America," crowed team captain David Arnett (left), shown with fellow teammates (left to right) Anna Khan, Chernee Ooi and Jesse Liu. The group tied for 4th/5th place, competing against adults and scholarship-subsidized chess players from other schools. "To my knowledge, we were the highest finishing school of college-aged students," said Arnett. "And we were certainly the highest placed school that does not offer scholarships to chess players."
