Sloan Foundation/NSF award to biologist


Paul Sneigowski, an assistant professor of biology, has received a Young Investigator Award in Molecular Studies of Evolution, sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Sneigowski, is one of five award recipients. Each of these three-year awards totals $100,000 to "be deployed in the most effective manner to support a developing research career and to assist the transition to traditional research project funding."

Conn book wins award

The Literary Award of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia has been awarded to Peter Conn, a professor of English, for his book "Pearl S. Buck: A Cultural Biography." This award is granted to the outstanding book by a Philadelphia-area author that was published in the past year. The book was chosen as a New York Times Notable Book in 1996, and was included among the five finalists for the National Book Critics Circle award in biography.
