A Woodrow Wilson Fellowship

G. John Ikenberry, associate professor of political science, has been named a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. One of 21 scholars selected from nearly 700 who applied, Ikenberry proposed to research "Strategies of engagement: American and the liberal pursuit of international order."

Research recognized

Hank Kung, Ph.D., professor and chief of radiopharmaceutical research, has been honored with the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine's Award for Best Science Paper in 1997 for developing an advanced brain imaging agent, Trodat, that may be a key to understanding brian disorders like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. The award also recognizes the multi-disciplinary team of researchers, including chemists, radiologists, psychiatrists and pharmacologists whose work contributed to the development of Trodat.

Peter F. Davies, IME director and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and of bioengineering, was awarded a $1.3 million extension to his NIH MERIT award to support innovative work in biomechanical engineering. He also delivered the "1998 Stanford Distinguished Lecturer in Biomechanical Engineering" in June. The lectureship at Stanford University recognizes important contributions in the field.

Healthcare honors

David J. Shulkin, M.D., has won the 1998 International Emerging Leaders in Healthcare Award for making sure the Health System delivers cost-effective, high-quality health care. Shulkin, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer, received the award in May.

Ann O'Sullivan, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, was honored at the American Nurses Association's convention this summer for outstanding direct patient care. On the faculty of the schools of Nursing and Medicine, O'Sullivan is recognized nationwide for the Teen Baby Program.
