NEWS BRIEFS

Diplomacy, Jr.

More than 1,400 high school students descended on Penn last weekend to represent seasoned diplomats and petty bureaucrats at the 15th annual Ivy League Model United Nations Conference. The aspiring global dealers simulated committee sessions, debated current and potential threats to security and shmoozed in the manner befitting their designated country. James Lilley, former U.S. ambassador to the People's Republic of China under President George Bush and currently the resident fellow of Asian Studies at the American Enterprise Institute led the opening ceremony. Unlike in the actual United Nations, students representing the U.S. delegation did pay the required dues before dictating global policy.

Lovey-dovey

Mom and Dad may have told you about birds and bees, but they probably didn't have an ear for teenage sexual proclivities like Dr. Drew and Adam do. The Tangible Change Committee, a student group dedicated to bringing name events to campus, hopes that "Loveline" hosts Dr. Drew and Adam will woo students to the Zellerbach Theatre with their blend of crass and clinical love advice this Valentine's Day weekend. Dr. Drew Pinsky and sassy sidekick Adam Carolla have a regular audience of a million people tuning in on radio and MTV. The "Loveline" duo are currently on a tour of college campuses promoting their show and hawking "The Dr. Drew and Adam Book," their new book of love advice.

Let them play

Gold medal gymnast Nadia Comaneci will tumble her way to Penn to introduce an advanced screening of HBO's new documentary "Dare to Compete: The Struggle of Women in Sports," at the Zellerbach Theater on February 23. The documentary covers women's sports from the Victorian age - when the ladies made do with croquet - up to long-due advances such as Title IX and the WNBA.
