The temporary CEO of the Penn Health System has been made permanent.

President Judith Rodin appointed Peter G. Traber, M.D., as CEO of Penn Health System March 16.

“I am very pleased to have this opportunity from both a personal standpoint and also from adding stability to the health system,” Traber said. “It is a difficult time and permanency is important for everyone.”

Traber’s first action after his appointment was to conclude the arrangement with the Hunter Group, consultants brought in to cut costs at the Medical Center. “There are eight inches of documentation from the Hunter Group and over 430 recommendations. We will analyze these ideas as well as create ones on our own that provide the effective and efficient health care we desire.”

Traber will remain interim dean of the Medical School while a faculty committee conducts a nationwide search in accordance with University policy. He is expected to be a candidate.
