APPOINTMENTS
Search for top medical
job begins
The University has appointed a committee to advise on the search for
a new Medical School Dean/CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health
System. President Judith Rodin and Provost Robert Barchi stated in a joint
announcement: The task assigned to this committee is of great importance
to the University and the Health System. Because the combined Dean/CEO
job will involve both academic and administrative responsibilities of
the highest order, we have asked several of our most renowned faculty
and University officers to serve on the committee.
Dwight

Roberta
Iversen, Ph.D., has been named interim associate dean of the School
of Social Work, succeeding Peter Vaughan, Ph.D., who is leaving to serve
as dean of the School of Social Work at Fordham. Iverson joined the faculty
in 1997 and was formerly a practicing social worker and supervisor at
a non-profit family agency. Her research centers on how gender, race and
class affect status and occupation.
Carla Shultzberg
has been named director of athletic communications. Since arriving as
an intern in the Office of Athletic Communications in 1995, Schultzberg
has moved to increasingly responsible jobs, including, most recently,
media relations chair for the 2000 NCAA Womens Basketball Final
Four at the First Union Center. She was also media relations coordinator
for the last three Penn Relay Carnivals. Schultzberg will continue to
coordinate the athletics Web page and serve as editor of several athletic
department publications, including the quarterly newsletter, PennSport!,
and the Penns football and mens basketball game-day programs.
