NEWS BRIEFS This years tallyThe Wharton School has been at the top of the Business Week rankings of the best B-schools for choose one: a) one b) two c) three d) four consecutive surveys. The answer is d) four. In the latest round of B-school rankings, published in the Oct. 2 issue, the mag noted that the school remains a favorite with corporate recruiters and students. The students like what BW called Whartons can-do culture. The recruiters value Wharton grads sharp minds and global outlook, and continue to give Whartons curriculum high marks for its innovation. Olympic medalsPenn alums took two medals at the Summer Games in Sydney. Brandon Slay (W98) won a silver in mens freestyle wrestling, 168 pound (76kg) class, at the Summer Games in Sydney. He beat reigning Olympic champion Bouvaissa Saitiev of Russia to get to the final match with Germanys Alexander Leipold. Sarah Garner (C94) took home a bronze medal in womens lightweight double sculls with fellow American Christine Collins at the games; final times Romania 7:02.64, Germany 7:02.95, United States 7:06.37. The wizzesJay Liebowitz (W03), whose book Wall Street Wizard came out in September, has investment advice for younger investors. His Web site, www.streetwhiz.com, on the same subject, got the attention of Yahoo!, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and his editor at Simon & Schuster. But investment wiz Liebowitz is not alone. He got the attention of The Philadelphia Inquirer on the same day (Sept. 13) as did Michael Stahl (W04) for his coming book, Early to Rise: A Young Persons Guide to Investing and Financial Decisions That Can Shape a Life, due out in the fall. Stahl, an investor since the fourth grade, already has a retirement account.
