EDITOR'S PICK Africa, live and on film
February is Black History Month. So perhaps its no coincidence that two major events within a week celebrate the continent every African-American ultimately hails from. First up is the University of Pennsylvania Museums 12th annual Celebration of African Cultures, a day-long festival Feb. 17 featuring music, dance, arts and crafts, games, animals, African food and much more. Then, beginning the following Wednesday, International House presents the African Film Festival, the traveling edition of its larger New York cousin. The annual event showcases some of the best new cinema from Africas growing ranks of filmmakers. --S.S.
