News briefs Growing painsAs Gimbel Gymnasium continues its makeover into the David S. Pottruck Health and Fitness Center, members might find some surprising new changes. The main entrance moved to Sansom Street and a new spinning room is on the second floor. Other additions include two basketball courts with portable baskets. Day lockers can now be found in all areas of the gym, but the number of permanent lockers is limited. Added to this list of what Carla Schultzberg, director of athletic communications, calls growing pains is the relocation of the facilitys offices. Users will now have to go to Hutchinson Gym for all recreational and membership needs. Details at www.upenn.edu/recreation. HUP, HUP hoorayStudents are not the only ones who can boast honor roll achievements. For the fifth consecutive year, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has been listed in the honor roll of hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. In its July 23 issue, the magazine noted HUPs excellence in more than 15 medical specialties: cancer; digestive disorders; ear, nose, and throat; eyes; geriatrics; gynecology; hormonal disorders; kidney disease; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; rehabilitation; respiratory disorders; rheumatology; urology; and psychiatry. Parking feesThose with parking permits can expect a bigger bill as of Sept. 1. The hikes, which will vary depending on the permit classification, will average five percent, or approximately an extra $1.25 each week, in most University parking lots. Still, the new average rate of $5.13 per working day is low when compared to the new $10 daily flat rate charged to non-permit holders. The extra funds will cover costs such as surface lot improvements and new parking facilities.
