Kids enroll now

While the school year isn’t over yet, the Penn-assisted school is already thinking about next year’s batch of new students. Registration for students enrolling in kindergarten and grades 1, 2, 5 and 6 is now taking place noon to 5 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the school’s Planning Office, located at 43rd and Spruce streets. If the child is already in the Philadelphia public schools, bring proof of residency in the catchment area. New registrants bring a birth certificate, proof of residency in the catchment area and immunization records. Bronze age

Findings from Penn’s archaeological research in Thailand have now hit bookshelves. “Ban Chiang, a Prehistoric Village Site in Northeast Thailand I: The Human Skeletal Remains” (University of Pennsylvania Museum, 2002) is part of one of the two largest studies of ancient skeletal remains ever undertaken in Thailand. The discovery, made jointly with Thailand’s Fine Arts Department in the early ’70s, has revolutionized thinking about Southeast Asia’s past, providing evidence for a bronze age culture engaged in interregional trade and large-scale metal production.
