One world, one hope

Meet the University of Pennsylvania Museum's new mask-ots—inspired by artifacts in the Museum's vast collections. They'll be on hand Sunday, Dec. 8.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—the season when people of various faiths, cultures and nationalities stop to express their hope for peace and goodwill. The University of Pennsylvania Museum’s salute to this global desire is the “Peace Around the World” celebration, held this year on Dec. 8.

In addition to a panoply of dancers, children’s and youth choirs, puppeteers, storytellers, artists and craftspeople, this year’s seventh annual event features something new: a pageant of Museum mascots—three characters in masks and costumes inspired by artifacts in the Museum’s collection and created for the Museum’s International Classroom program by regional artist Tom Sonnenberg. To top it all off, the Museum Shop and the Museum Café will be offering special items in the spirit of the event.

“PEACE AROUND THE WORLD”: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the University of Pennsylvania Museum, 3260 South St. Admission free.
