Juan Torres

WHO HE IS: Groundskeeper, Athletic Department
YEARS AT PENN: 10
WHAT HE DOES: Among his other groundskeeping duties, Torres drives the “Toast Zamboni”—the sweeper that cleans up the toast, bagels and other baked goods Penn supporters throw on Franklin Field after the third quarter of every home football game. The toast-throwing tradition—in response to the line “Here’s a toast to dear old Penn” in a school song—was inspired by antics at screenings of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
PIECES THROWN PER GAME: 20,000 to 30,000 in a good season, according to supervisor Tony Overend
