Saunders (left), Marisa Wiker (right) and their
Neighborhood Bike Works colleagues spent much of August making
bicycling to
Penn safer. The University City bicycling group provided the staff
for a valet bike parking area, a pilot project co-sponsored by
the Wharton School and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia
(BCGP). Parker Snowe, associate director of international programs
in the Wharton Graduate Division and president of the BCGP, said
that response to the pilot was so strong—anywhere from 50
to 60 bicyclists per day used the lot during a slow summer month—that
funding is being sought to create a permanent secure bike parking
facility.
