Eastward ho!

Penn riders traveling to and from Center City are now able to catch a ride on Penn Shuttle East, operating from 1 to 3 a.m. Monday through Friday and 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Penn Shuttle East boundaries run from Market to South streets west of 20th Street. For service, riders must call 215-898-RIDE (6433). After arranging a pick-up, riders can board the shuttle at one of nine designated transit stops.

Other Penn Transit services, including the PennBus East and West and the Penn Shuttle West, will continue to operate on a regular schedule.

Taps for Stanley

Maj. Gen. Clifford L. Stanley announced his resignation from his position as Executive Vice President of the University as of Oct. 10, citing personal reasons.

Stanley came to Penn in September, 2002, after serving more than 30 years in the Marine Corps. He replaced John Fry, who left Penn in July 2002 to become president of Franklin and Marshall College.

Between now and June 30, 2004—the end of Judith Rodin’s term as president—the EVP position will remain unfilled and vice presidents who reported to Stanley will now report to Rodin. The EVP is responsible for overseeing all non-academic University departments, including facilities, finance and alumni relations.

Penn sounds off

Members of the search committee for a successor to President Judith Rodin heard the concerns of students, faculty and staff in three town hall meetings Sept. 30. The chief concern voiced at the faculty session was that whoever succeeds Rodin should focus on keeping Penn strong academically. At the session for administrators and staff, speakers repeatedly brought up the lack of staff representation on the search committee.
