Happy birthday

For its 25th birthday, the McNeil Center for Early American Studies unwrapped a swell present Dec. 11: A new building custom-designed for its activities. The two-story neo-Federalist structure designed by Robert A.M. Stern will be the center’s ninth and first permanent home. The new facility, on 34th Street just north of Walnut, is set to open in 2006.

Fund honors Rodin

New York businessman Henry Silverman L’64 has earmarked the final $5 million of his $15 million pledge to Penn for the creation of the Silverman-Rodin Scholars Program. The program, set to begin in the fall of 2004, will provide full scholarships to five top students in each first-year law class. The endowment is the first gift to Penn in honor of President Judith Rodin CW’66, who attended Penn on a scholarship herself.

Oops!

In our Dec. 11 “People’s Choice,” we misidentified Janine Ehsani, senior associate director of gift planning in the Development Office, as Janine Elyan, senior assistant director of gift planning in the Health System development office.
