Ann Miller hoofed it on the silver screen. Gregory Hines tore up the stage in the 1992 Broadway musical, “Jelly’s Last Jam.” Now, today’s greatest tap dancers pay homage to the greatest dancers of the art form in the new Dance Celebration work, “Thank You Gregory! A Tribute to the Legend of Tap,” which runs from May 19 through 21 at the Annenberg Center. The all-star cast of tappers includes choreographer Brenda Bufalino, Tony Waag, who founded the American Tap Dance Orchestra with Bufalino and former “Riverdance” player Karen Callaway Williams (left). These world-class dancers will pay homage to Hines (whose name became synomous with the dance form), Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Howard “Sandman” Sims, Fred Astaire and more in the final Dance Celebration performance of the year.
—Performances are from May 19 at 7:30 p.m., May 20 at 8 p.m. and May 21 at 2 and 8 p.m. at Zellerbach Theatre. Info: 215-898-3900 or www.pennpresents.org. Evening tickets: $44, $38, $32; matinee tickets: $38, $34, $32.
