Field and Stream

Get your spring baseball fix this month down at Murphy Field by catching the Penn Quakers in action. On March 19 Penn takes on Hartford for an early-spring doubleheader. This season, Coach Bob Seddon is returning 11 players who have seen time on the field and bringing in a promising freshman class. Heading up the team are seniors Bryan Graves (who batted .301 last year) and Evan Sobel (.302). Of these veteran players, Seddon says, “The two have an unbelievable work ethic and do a great job getting the other players motivated.” This is Seddon’s last season as baseball coach—he stepped down as soccer coach in 1986 —and he’s sure to be missed. The winningest coach Penn has ever had, with 777 career victories, Seddon is also the longest-tenured Ivy League baseball coach—he’s been making it happen here at Penn for 36 years.

Penn battles Hartford in a doubleheader—first game at noon, second at 3:30 p.m.—March 19 at Murphy Field, University Ave. at the Schuylkill River. Info: www.pennathletics.com.
