NEWS BRIEFS

Open Season

If you want to make changes to your healthcare elections, now’s the time to do it. Open Enrollment continues through Friday, April 21. Just go to www.upenn.edu/u@penn, click on “Open Enrollment” under Announcements and log on with your PennKey and password to change your plan or doctor or to add or remove family members. Even if you’re not making other changes, this is a good time to update your life insurance beneficiary information. Questions? Contact the Penn Benefits Center at 1-888-736-6236.

Home sweet home

Meet mortgage lenders, credit counselors, real estate and insurance agents, developers and contractors at the 2006 Annual Housing Fair on May 2 at Bodek Lounge, Houston Hall, 3417 Spruce St. Future homeowners can attend workshops on credit repair, prevention of identity theft, mortgages and refinancing and financial planning. For more information, contact the Office of Community Housing at 215-898-7422.

Moving up

The annual U.S. News & World Reportís best graduate schools rankings are out, and five of Pennís schools are on the list. The School of Medicine moved up from fourth place to third. The Wharton School came in at number three in the business school category, and both the Graduate School of Education and Penn Law maintained their seventh place rankings. Meanwhile, Penn admitted just 17.6 percent of a record 20,479 applicants this year. The admittance rate is the lowest in Pennís history, and resulted from both a surge in applications and an expected increase in the number of students who will accept their offers of admission.
