WELLNESS Summer, naturally Go ahead, be good to yourself. At Penn’s Wellness Wednesday workshop series you can learn about
the ancient practices of massage and acupuncture for free. “The
main mission is to keep people healthy throughout the year,” says
Stephen McCann, the office and wellness coordinator in the Office of
Health Education. The next class takes place at noon in Houston Hall on July 12, and is the second of two workshops on acupuncture run by Philadelphia practitioner Korben Perry. Perry will demystify the art of acupuncture, provide treatment for one lucky person and discuss his work with Katrina survivors in New Orleans. On July 19 and 26, come prepared to learn about massage techniques from Iris Marie Bloom. Bring a friend—or don’t be shy to work with a stranger in the class—and learn how to get those knots out. In the second class, on July 26, Bloom will review basic chair massage techniques and then focus on Swedish therapeutic massage techniques for the back and shoulders. If an hour-long workshop isn’t up your alley, relieve stress with a 20-minute or 45-minute massage for $15 or $30, respectively.
