Give to Penn’s Way through early December

The 2014 Penn’s Way campaign officially culminates on Friday, Nov. 15, but faculty and staff can make pledges through early December. The fundraising goal for the 2014 drive is $1.45 million.

The 2014 Penn’s Way campaign, the University’s workplace charitable giving initiative, officially culminates on Friday, Nov. 15.

But the clock hasn’t run out yet. There’s still time to pledge to Penn’s Way and make an immediate impact on some of the region’s most vulnerable populations.

“The goals of the campaign are for the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine faculty and staff to be able to collectively give back to the community and region in which we live,” says Maureen Rush, vice president for the Division of Public Safety and co-chair of Penn’s Way 2014. “Through this campaign, we’re really able to target some of the key goals we have as individuals and as an organization.”

Rush says Penn faculty and staff can make pledges to Penn’s Way through early December and their contributions will be included in the campaign’s goals. The fundraising goal for the 2014 drive is $1.45 million.

2014 Penn’s Way beneficiaries include Penn Medicine, the Center for Responsible Funding, and United Way.

“Donations will benefit everything from early childhood education and families, to hospice care and research for cancer, to socially conscious organizations—it’s so varied,” says Rush, who is co-chairing the 2014 campaign alongside Susan Phillips, senior vice president for public affairs at the Health System. Claire Finkelstein, professor of law and philosophy and chair-elect of the Faculty Senate, and Peter Quinn, vice dean for professional services and senior vice president of the Health System, also served as faculty advisers for the campaign.

Rush says Penn’s Way has weathered shaky economic conditions over the years—a notion she says reflects the generosity of Penn faculty and staff.

“We went from, in 2004, raising $465,000 through the campaign, to raising $1.4 million [in the 2013 campaign],” Rush says. “We’ve been able to increase the total goal amount and surpass that goal every year. That drastic change and increase in funding is incredible. We are stronger together.”
