Microscope exhibit

"Wonders of the Microscope" explores the revolution in observational science facilitated by the invention of the microscope in the late 1600s and emphasizes the many ways in which the microscope entered popular culture over the following centuries as a source of instruction and entertainment for a broad public. Penn's Department of Fine Arts presents "Artifacts, Massacres, and Dinner Parties," a solo show featuring the work of Julie Saecker Schneider, a painter/drawer and the fine arts undergraduate director in PennDesign, who is retiring after 17 years at the University. Concerned with recontextualizing myths and the physical description of memory, Schneider works primarily in graphite, creating large tightly crafted drawings of figures and dead roses, her metaphor for memory.
