In honor of the first visit by Pope Francis and the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, the Penn Museum, 3260 South St., is offering a special focus on the ancient Near East, Egypt, and the Bible Lands. A centerpiece exhibition, Sacred Writings: Extraordinary Texts of the Biblical World, highlights the many ways the Bible has been represented over time and across continents. To mark half a century as one of the leading contemporary art museums in the world, the exhibition “ICA@50: Pleasing Artists and Publics Since 1963” animates the Institute of Contemporary Art’s past and propels it into the future. The ICA is celebrating the anniversary by examining lesser-known moments in contemporary art, engage today’s artists, commission new projects, and move toward the unknown.
