Andreea Dimofte, a medical physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, is showcasing her photography at the Burrison Gallery at the University Club at Penn, 3611 Walnut St. Dimofte's photography interests come from a constant search for the less common perspective on otherwise classic themes and locations, from the natural beauty of a sunny island beach to the hidden corners and doors lining up an urban back alley. Check it out from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception will be held Friday, Sept. 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

DIGITAL AGE RETAILING

The Penn Association of Senior and Emeritus Faculty gathers for a luncheon featuring speaker Joseph Turow on the transformation of retailing in the digital age. Turow is the Robert Lewis Shayon Professor of Communication and associate dean for graduate studies at the Annenberg School for Communication. The lecture will be held in the hourglass room in the University Club in the Inn at Penn, 3600 Sansom St.

The Arthur Ross Gallery will showcase artwork from the collection of Thomas W. Evans. As the American-born dentist who served the French court of Napoleon III, Evans assembled a top collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. This exhibition offers an exclusive look at highlights from the Evans Collection for the first time in more than 30 years. The Arthur Ross Gallery, at 220 S. 34th St., is free and open to the public. Its hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. It is closed Mondays and some holidays. Info: www.arthurrossgallery.org.

ICA AT 50

To mark half a century as one of the leading contemporary art museums in the world, the exhibition “ICA@50: Pleasing Artists and Publics Since 1963” animates the Institute of Contemporary Art’s past and propels it into the future. The ICA is celebrating the anniversary by examining lesser-known moments in contemporary art, engage today’s artists, commission new projects, and move toward the unknown.
