KING LEAR

The Annenberg Center for Performing Arts welcomes Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Company with their production of “King Lear.” Founded by the pioneering American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare’s Globe is a unique, London-based international resource dedicated to the exploration of the Bard of Avon’s work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education. Opening night takes place on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Zellerbach Theatre. Registration is required. Tickets range from $20 to $55. Performances run through Saturday, Sept. 27. Burn the Diaries

BURN THE DIARIES

The Institute of Contemporary Art presents “Moyra Davey: Burn the Diaries,” a new body of work by Davey based on the artist’s recent reading of Jean Genet. Moving between photography, writing, and film, Davey’s highly personal and methodical work draws deeply on the form of the essay. A public reception takes place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at ICA, 118 S. 36th St. The exhibit runs through Dec. 28. Info: www.icaphila.org.

To mark half a century as one of the leading contemporary art museums in the world, the exhibition “ICA@50: Pleasing Artists and Publics Since 1963” animates the Institute of Contemporary Art’s past and propels it into the future. The ICA is celebrating the anniversary by examining lesser-known moments in contemporary art, engage today’s artists, commission new projects, and move toward the unknown.
