A new study by Penn Vet's Michael Povelones indicates that a mosquito's immune system proteins spring into action after it feeds on blood in order to protect it from the parasite that causes malaria. Gaining a better understanding of the mosquito’s natural immune response to malaria could help in the search for treating the disease in humans.
