U.S. Attorney General speaks to Penn Criminology grads
Future intelligence analysts, law enforcement officers and criminal justice researchers will have the opportunity to see one of the field’s best at the Criminology Department graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 16.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will speak at a ceremony for these School of Arts and Sciences graduates and their invited guests at Saint Mary’s Church on Locust Walk. The ceremony is one of many school and departmental graduation events being held the weekend before the University’s 253rd Commencement on Monday, May 18th.
In December of last year, President Barack Obama nominated Holder to be the nation’s 82nd Attorney General. Holder was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Feb. 2, 2009 and began his service the next day. He is the first African American to hold that position.
Holder graduated from Columbia Law School in 1976 and joined the Department of Justice. He has served as an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Deputy U.S. Attorney General and Acting U.S. Attorney General. Most recently, Holder was a partner at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Covington & Burling.
