Landmark tours

George Thomas, lecturer in historic preservation and urban studies, tells a group of architecture buffs about one of Penn’s most famous buildings, Louis Kahn’s Richards Medical Laboratories, built in 1960. Richards Lab was one of several notable buildings by Philadelphia architects highlighted on walking tours of campus Oct. 5 organized by Thomas and History of Art Professor David Brownlee, co-author with Thomas of “Building America’s First University.” About 80 people took part in the tours, part of the Penn Humanities Forum’s year-long celebration of “Philadelphia Style.”
