How many volunteers does it
take to plant a tree? Twelve, judging from the 1,200 student and
community volunteers who turned out March 24 to plant 100 trees
along Walnut Street from 43rd to 48th streets as part of a beautification
project sponsored by UC Green and local property owners. Here, Penn
students Nick Severini (C04, left), Jeff Bagnoli (C03,
middle) and Eugene Cacovean (C03, right) finish planting a
tree. Thanks to the turnout, the entire 100-tree project was completed
in only two hours.
“I really do see the wait list as the final touches to a class.”
Eric J. Furda, dean of admissions at Penn, on students who are neither accepted nor rejected from a school. Last year, Penn offered 87 students admission off its active wait list of 1,200. (Philadelphia Inquirer, April 23, 2013)
