Previous home: apartment in Germantown

I love my house. I love West Philadelphia. Weve redone the entire place top to bottom, thanks to the University plan. I came back. (I used to live on Pine Street.) I came to know people in the communitytrue long-time community dwellers, the professors and physicians. I love Colonial Pizza [at 43rd and Pine streets]. They actually gave me my cat. And then my block is just wonderful.

Occupation: General manager, Penn Computer Connection

Previous Home: Art Museum area

Its a quiet, very family-oriented street. Im up on Larchwood, the 4700 block. The neighbors are very nice. I actually couldnt be happier there. I was renting, and I took the plunge to buy for the first time. It was the best decision I ever made. Instead of just paying rent and never seeing it again, Im putting it into a house where I have equity.

Moved to University City: 1998

Occupation: Housekeeper in Franklin Building

Previous Home: Lived with her sister in a house at 62nd Street and Girard Avenue

I love this house. One things the size. I love my neighborhood. Its quiet. I would not have been able to buy the house without Penns help. (Now her daughter is looking for a house in the neighborhood.)

Moved to University City: 2001

Occupation: Associate director, Middle East Center

Previous Home: Palisades Park, near New York City

My options were to live in Philadelphia or move out to suburbia. I hate suburbia. Its too homogenous. I like the neighborhood. I like old houses. ...We have new restaurants coming up. And I like the fact that there are people who have nothing to do with the University coexisting with people who are part of the University.
