Safer bikes through research

bike.jpeg

Research published in 1998 by Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Flaura K. Winston (right) and colleagues at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia has led to a device that promises to prevent serious injury in bike accidentscollapsible handlebars designed by Kristy Arbogast (left) of Childrens Hospital with assistance from students in Penns Engineering School. The device has been patented; the designers stated that it would be at least a year before it turns up on the handlebars of childrens bikes sold in stores.
