
POSITION : Rigger in the Athletic Department.
YEARS AT PENN: 14
WHAT THEY DO: Shepherd is based in the Boathouse on
the banks of the Schuylkill River at 11 Kelly Drive and performs routine
maintenance on rowing equipment—anything from patching a puncture
in a boat to repairing more serious body damage. He also ensures the
Boathouse stays in tip-top shape and makes adjustments to the boating
equipment for each person who rows.
NUMBER OF BOATS: Shepherd takes care
of about 20 eight-man shells, or boats, 11 four-man shells, 12 two-person
shells, 9 motorboats and a couple of workout rooms for the crew teams.
