In response to a growing awareness of alcohol abuse throughout college campuses, Vice Provost for University Life Valarie Swain-Cade McCoullum, Ph.D., recently announced the appointment of Stephanie Ives to the new position of alcohol coordinator. The position was created to consolidate the education, counseling and treatment of alcohol-related issues on campus.
Prior to her appointment Ives spent four years at the University of Arizona, where she created an award-winning media campaign to reduce binge drinking.
There has been a misconception on college campuses that drinking is a sort of rite of passage, Ives said. We are here to provide students with a healthy and safe environment.
The appointment of an alcohol coordinator was one of the suggestions of the student-led Working Group on Alcohol Abuse.Front page for this issue | Pennsylvania Current home page
