In the largest national study on developmental disabilities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have funded a $6.5 million, five-year study to identify the risk factors for autism spectrum disorders. The Study to Explore Early Development, or SEED, will try to narrow the possible causes for autism, including factors like genetics and environment. A University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing professor is the lead researcher on this study and can comment on autism.
