Thomas Seamon, left, Penn's Managing Director of Public Safety, presented a special key to former Philadelphia police Commissioner Kevin M. Tucker at the grand opening of a new Police Athletic League center in West Philadelphia earlier this month.
Penn is sponsoring the PAL center at the Alexander Wilson Elementary School at 46th & Woodland Avenues and the University has assigned Penn police Officer Willard Cooper to run the center with a Philadelphia police officer. The University has begun an endowment fund to ensure the success of the center, named in honor of Tucker, who was a strong supporter of the PAL program during his tenure.
The Tucker Center is the city's 23rd PAL center. The program, which has over 24,000 participants in centers throughout the city, offers a variety of recreational, cultural and tutoring activities to children ages 6 to 18.
